Tom Betthauser

Tom Betthauser
was born and raised in the Bay Area, where he graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute. He's currently finishing a MFA at Yale. His surreal, finely-detailed landscapes display impressive technique and a radical imagination. His art brings to mind the landscapes of Thomas Cole, the detailed scenes of George Catlin, and the fractured graphic impulses of M.C. Escher. Let's hope he comes back to the Bay Area after graduation. We could always use more talent on the home team.

Urbanized - by Gary Hustwit

This fall is the release of "Urbanized", the newest documentary by Gary Hustwit. It is the last in his design trilogy that included the movies "Helvetica" and "Objectified". I have rarely anticipated a documentary as much as this. Check out the movie's website to find out when you can see it in your neck of the woods. For those of you in the bay area it will be screening at Yerba Beuena Center for the Arts in November along with the other movies in the design series. I have already reserved my tickets.
