Katya Bonnenfant
Katya Bonnenfant's artwork is so amazing it makes me giddy. I love her use of color; her slightly dark and still comical subjects. She is currently showing her work at Haines Gallery in San Francisco. You'd be a fool to miss it.

Nathan Oliveira

Nathan Oliveira, who passed away in November of last year, was a Bay Area artist who fused Abstract Expressionism with figurative painting. His work presents a compelling, psychologically-intricate vision.
Richard Pearse
I first came across Richard Pearse's work when checking out the Linear Empires exhibit at White Walls (previously posted here). I am truly impressed and inspired by what he does. The meticulous use of materials shows not just design and art skills but also amazing craftsmanship. I can't wait to see what else he comes up with.

Jayme Odgers Benefit at Launch Projects

| Bete Noir Of The Busy Mind, Jayme Odgers |
MK Gallery is putting a very special benefit exhibition together for artist Jayme Odgers. The exhibition will run for one week only from February 19th to February 26th presented by Launch Projects, with support from Merry Karnowsky Gallery.
Jayme suffered a stroke in January, which has affected his ability to swallow, speak, and work.
The paintings and works on paper being presented are from the artist’s personal holdings and will be offered at 50% of retail prices. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the artist to assist with much needed medical costs and other related expenses. Donations will also be accepted. Please stop by and help out.

If you are a regular reader of this blog then you probably already know of my love for Health Ceramics and mid-century design. Adam Silverman is a potter that lives in LA and works with Heath (running their LA storefront). His newest project called Reverse Archaeology hits close to home for me. Here's the idea as explained by Heath:
"The traditional country potter worked by setting up his studio near a clay deposit and making pots from that clay. As you might imagine, different areas offer up different clay, and these differences cannot help but inform the end result, the finished pot.
Reverse Archaeology proposes a cultural version of this—to harvest materials from a culturally significant site and imbue the work with that significance."

Silverman is an architecture student turned potter who found inspiration in Fort Worth, TX (my hometown). Again I'll let Heath do the explaining:
"(for) Adam Silverman, there is probably no more culturally significant site to gather materials from than the area of Forth Worth, Texas where architects Renzo Piano and Tadao Ando come face to face with the legendary Louis Kahn—specifically, in the form of Kahn’s Kimbell Art Museum, Ando’s Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and Piano’s just-begun addition to the Kimbell."

Stolen Art
Sadly last night Jason Lee’s one of a kind 8×10 Polaroid of the late Dennis Hopper was stolen from THIS Gallery in LA. The artist is putting up a $25,000 dollar reward to anyone who can bring the print back. The thief can come forward anonymously and charges won’t be pressed against him. Please get the word out and help get Jason’s art back. You can call the gallery at 323-747-5301 or email this@thislosangeles.com with any information. Thanks.

My favorite young fashion designer - Jeremy Laing
I am totally in love with the designs of Jeremy Laing. Above are pieces from his spring 2011 collection. Laing worked under Alexander McQueen before venturing off on his on fashion label. His pieces are totally wearable and still have an edge that makes fashion interesting. You can find pieces from this fantastic collection through one of my favorite online shops La Garçonne.
