Next Saturday sees the opening of Vivid Fiction at MK Gallery in LA. This show includes an artist I adore Juno Mizuno. In her series of paintings entitled “Deranged,” she mixes adorable with grotesque in a unique style that has been called “Kawaii Noir.” Inspired by pop art, erotica, and Japanese horror films, her neo-psychedelic paintings depict cartoonish females with curvaceous figures in nightmarish circumstances.

I made it to the SFMOMA over the weekend to check out the Fisher Collection. It did not disappoint. Frank and I both really enjoyed it. A few our of favorites included all the Calder mobiles, all the Cy Twombly pieces, and a few of the Warhol's. You should not miss this one.

TechnoCRAFT explores how the boundary between the role of the designer and the consumer is disappearing. Curated by acclaimed designer Yves Behar, the exhibition traces the current trend in design away from fixed objects toward open "design platforms" that invite people to participate in the creative process. I'll be checking out this one.

Cody Hoyt is a fantastic artist and designer. He and his buddy Brian Willmont together have a publishing/printmaking project they call Apenest. Their goal is to create a high quality and accessible creative publication solely focused on showcasing good art by emerging artists. We can all get behind that idea.
