Dave Ellis’ work interprets music and sound. His paintings are often recorded in a form of digital time-lapse animation Ellis calls motion painting. Like jazz, these works provide Ellis with an opportunity to combine ideas with collaborators or work solo within a form that promotes improvisation and spontaneity. Ellis often stages events when exhibiting his motion paintings—inviting musicians, performers and sound artists to interpret the work live. His motion painting, Paint on Trucks in a World in Need of Love, was recently exhibited at MoMA. Check out more of Dave's work here.
My friend Bobby York is a photographer in LA. His most recent project is a self-portrait. Here are his thoughts on it: "My inspiration comes from my love of iconography and influenced by the Renaissance Art I saw in Europe. The concept came to me while I was stuck in traffic in downtown Dallas. I looked to my left to see (what I thought was stained glass) this incredible Mosaic tile work. That's when it hit me." From Bobby's divine inspiration came his beautiful promo piece. Technically challenging because it was done with out the use of Photoshop, he has challenged himself to move beyond the photograph and into the three dimensional.
