Andrea Zittel is an artist and designer working out of what she calls AZ West, located on twenty-five acres in the California high desert next to Joshua Tree National Park and Los Angeles. Her work is vast and her latest project is called Smockshop.
From the website:
"These versatile garments are both attractive and utilitarian - each garment is one of a kind, and is sewn by an artist who reinterprets the original design based on their individual skill sets, tastes and interests.
The smockshop generates income for artists who’s work is either non-commercial, or not yet self sustaining."
This summer July 27th through September 21, 2008, Smockshop will be in Chinatown in LA.

I found Petit Collage through their Etsy shop. Lorena Siminovich is the artist/designer that creates these lovely little collages created for kids (although I love them so much I'd buy them for myself). She's a San Francisco based artist and designer who also does more abstract work as well. Check out her other Etsy shop for more work.

Phillips Design has come up with a new and interesting project. I hope I can check it out in person soon.
"Electronic Sensing Jewelry has been conceived alongside a European project, STELLA, developing stretchable, flexible electronic substrates that integrate energy supply, sensors, actuators, and display.
Skintile the Electronic Sensing Jewelry further explores emotional and physiological sensing. It is a new genre of product; a generation of wireless, stick-on body sensors that re-define traditional body adornment.
It explores a range of functionalities in new product forms that are playful, sensual, mood affected, bio activity stimulated, and arousal enhancing. It is a semi disposable, bio compatible, non-allergenic, breathable, mass customizable, self contained body worn accessory."
All I can say is WOW. From their website: "LucyandBart is a collaboration between Lucy McRae and Bart Hess described as an instinctual stalking of fashion, architecture, performance and the body. They share a fascination with genetic manipulation and beauty expression."
